Vulcaniella klimeschi is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 7 to 9 millimeters. The head is bronze. Thorax and tegulae have a dark golden brown sheen and are each lined with white at the back. Vulcaniella klimeschi has similarly drawn fore wings as Vulcaniella grabowiella .

In the males, the right brachium is curved and narrowed distally . The left brachium is slightly curved and has a rounded apex. The valves are parallel-walled and quite wide. The right valvella is slightly shorter than the distal part of the aedeagus and very strong. It tapers distally to a rounded apex. The left valvella is elongated triangular. The distal part of the aedeagus tapers gradually distally.

The genital armature of the females is similar to that of Vulcaniella grabowiella , but has a V-shaped ante-vaginal plate, the sclerotization at the rear end of the 7th sternite is sac-shaped, and the ductus bursae is only half as long as the corpus bursae .

Similar species

Vulcaniella klimeschi has similarly drawn forewings to Vulcaniella grabowiella , but there is a small white spot on the base of the forewing. An examination of the genitals is necessary to reliably identify the species.

distribution

Vulcaniella klimeschi has been found in Macedonia , Greece and Crete .

biology

The caterpillars develop in the leaves of Salvia ringens in a space mine on both sides. The mine begins as a dark feeding tunnel on the leaf center rib. It is later continued as a space mine, which is lined with silk on the inside and does not contain caterpillar droppings. At the beginning of the mine, the caterpillars make a silk web, which is covered with caterpillar droppings. In Greece and Crete, butterflies were collected in the first half of June.
