The four-stream is a stream that north-east of Vastorf in the district of Lüneburg springs and Bienenbuttel as a right tributary to the Ilmenau flows . Between the Elbe Lateral Canal and Bienenbüttel, the brook with its valley and part of the valley of the Hartgenbeck, which flows into the Vierenbach, form the nature reserve of the same name .

Nature reserve

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG LÜ 268 is 230  hectares in size. It is part of the FFH area "Ilmenau with tributaries". It is northeast of Bienenbüttel in the Lower Saxony unitary community of Bienenbüttel in the district of Uelzen .

The protected area is predominantly characterized by damp locations. Besides alder - and ash moist forests are birch bog woodland and wet grassland on fen to find. In addition, wet bushes, come marshes , reed beds , Rieder and Hochstaudenfluren ago. At the edges of the lowlands, which are surrounded by drier geest slopes, oak-hornbeam and oak mixed forests can be found.

The aim of the protection of the area is the preservation and development of the near-natural, mostly shaded streams, u. a. as a habitat for otters , bullheads and brook lamprey , and the semi-natural deciduous forests and other habitats for plants and animals that love moisture.

Wild fields have been created in several places within the nature reserve . Parts of the areas in the nature reserve are used for agriculture. In the district of Niendorf of the unitary community of Bienenbüttel, district road 42 runs through the nature reserve. In the west of the protected area there is a path that can be entered.

The area has been a nature reserve since December 30, 2004. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Uelzen.
