The Lopautal is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Wriedel in the joint municipality of Bevensen-Ebstorf in the Uelzen district .

General

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 353 is approximately 19  hectares in size. It is completely part of the FFH area "Luhe and lower Neetze water system". The nature reserve consists of two parts. The western sub-area borders to the north on the landscape protection area "Landscape protection area of ​​the district of Lüneburg", the eastern sub-area to the north, east and south on the landscape protection area "Süsing", which is included in the scope of the nature conservation ordinance in the nature reserve. The area has been under nature protection since April 16, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Uelzen.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Munster on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park . It protects a section of the Lopau as a near-natural Geestbach with alternating sandy and gravelly areas and part of the Wulfsoder Graben flowing towards it. The flowing waters have well-developed, flooding aquatic vegetation in places.

The surrounding areas, characterized by swamps and fens , are each included in the nature reserve. The area as part of a large surface area of the wooded Hohenheide is forests and embedded therein swamps, reeds , sedge , Hochstaudenfluren and wet grassland embossed. In the damp valley areas, alder and alluvial forests are covered with black alder and ash . Common bird cherry as well as white elm and English oak join them . Pine, mixed oak and beech forests and oak forests grow on drier locations and on the edges of the Geestrasse, which are particularly steep in the western part of the nature reserve. The oak forests are dominated by English oak and sessile oak . They are joined by sand and downy birch , rowan , aspen and Scots pine , to a lesser extent copper beech . The swamp and alluvial forests are mostly left to their own devices. Some of the forests in the nature reserve have a high proportion of old and dead wood .

The area is the habitat and feeding habitat of various animal and plant species. So here are u. a. Amphibians , including the crested newt , various dragonflies such as great moss damsel , banded demoiselle , green damsel , blue-green damsel and late Adonis dragonfly as well as butterflies such as wet meadow mother-of-pearl butterfly, brown-spot mother-of-pearl butterfly, scabiosa-pied butterfly and white-tied meadow butterfly are represented. The area is home to otters , wild cats and beavers . White-tailed eagles , black storks and cranes feed here, while black woodpeckers , woodcock and kingfisher are at home here. The area is home to a variety of rare plant species, including broad-leaved orchid , grape brine, and black-headed sedge . The Lopau is a habitat for bullheads , asp , wolffish and brook , river and sea lamprey , among others .

The surface portions of the protected area can be predominantly located outside the protected area hiking and farm roads are seen from.
