The Lüneburg Ilmenau lowlands with zoo is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city of Lüneburg , in the municipalities of Wendisch Evern in the joint municipality of Ostheide and Deutsch Evern and Melbeck in the joint municipality of Ilmenau in the district of Lüneburg and in the unified municipality of Bienenbüttel in the district of Uelzen .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 282 is 389 hectares . Of this, 364 hectares are in the Lüneburg district and 25 hectares in the Uelzen district. It is completely part of the FFH area "Ilmenau with tributaries". In the west it borders on the nature reserves " Hasenburger Bachtal " and " Barnstedt-Melbecker Bach " and in the east on the nature reserve " Dieksbeck "
The nature reserve is located in the south of Lüneburg and extends along the Ilmenau to a few kilometers northwest of Bienenbüttel . It includes the course of the Ilmenau river with its lowland , the estuary areas of the tributaries and the forests bordering the Geestrand . The Lausebach, Göxer Bach and Ordau tributaries in the Lüneburg Zoo, a forest area in the south of Lüneburg, and parts of the forest area are also included in the nature reserve.
The area is shaped by the meandering river course of the Ilmenau. The flood-exposed lowland is mainly used for agriculture as grassland . Some of the land is fallow, only a few arable land can be found. Mixed oak and beech forests can be found on the Geestrand, and wet forests in the area of the Lüneburg zoo.
In the protected area u. a. Otter , river lamprey , bullhead , crested newt , green wedge damsel and river mussel .
The nature reserve in Lüneburg is crossed or affected by several railway lines. The Lüneburg – Soltau railway crosses the Ilmenau in the north of the nature reserve, in the area of the Lüneburg Zoo, the Hanover – Hamburg railway crosses parts of the protected area; in the east it borders on the Wittenberge – Buchholz railway, known as the Wendland Railway . Parts of the protected area in the area of the Lüneburg Zoo border in the southeast on the Lüneburg bypass formed by the federal roads 4 and 209 , which also crosses the Ilmenau in the nature reserve.
The Ilmenau cycle path as well as the two long -distance cycle paths Weser-Harz-Heide-Radfernweg and Lüneburger Heide cycle path run in Lüneburg on the edge of the nature reserve.
The area has been a nature reserve since December 13, 2007. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Lüneburg and Uelzen.
