Martin Lengwiler

Martin Lengwiler (* 1965 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss historian .

Life

Martin Lengwiler studied history , sociology and literary studies at the University of Zurich and did his doctorate in 1998 with Rudolf Braun . In 2004 he received his habilitation in Zurich , where he then worked as a private lecturer. From August 2009 he was assistant professor for modern general history at the University of Basel , after having already represented Professors Martin Schaffner (2006/07) and Thomas Mergel (2008/09). In January / February 2009 he was visiting professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris . In 2012 he was promoted to full professor in Basel.

He is an associated member of the science policy project group at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and has been an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Exeter since 2009 . He also works as editor-in-chief of the Swiss History Journal . Since 2014 he has been a member of the Independent Expert Commission for the Scientific Review of Administrative Care Before 1981 .

His research focuses on the history of the welfare state , the modern history of science and the economic and social history of the 19th and 20th centuries.
