Adolf Bätge

Adolf Bätge (born March 10, 1886 in Suhlendorf , † March 23, 1958 in Oldenstadt ) was a German homeland researcher .

Life and education

Adolf Bätge grew up as the son of master blacksmith Karl Christoph Bätge in Suhlendorf. Even in his youth he developed an interest in local history and discovered his talent for drawing. In 1901 he began training as a painter and varnisher with the master painter Hermann Schulz in Uelzen . With the successful final examination in 1904 Bätge moved as a journeyman through Germany. In the winter months he attended the Hanover School of Applied Arts , where he deepened his artistic interests and skills. In 1905 he successfully passed the master craftsman examination. Bätge was very active artistically and drew and painted on the most varied of materials that were available to him, even on old calendar sheets. He created u. a. 1937 the coat of arms of the municipality of Böddenstedt .

Local history

After a lead poisoning, from which he fell ill as a result of working on the Uelzen-Soltau railway line, he gave up the profession of painter and varnisher and subsequently concentrated only on homeland, farm and family research. The main area of ​​his homeland research was the city and district of Uelzen as well as the adjacent areas of the districts of Celle , Lüchow-Dannenberg and Salzwedel . Bätge supplemented his written notes with numerous illustrations and also created village plans. His documents and research results are in the estate of the district archive of the Uelzen district.

The archive of the museum village Hösseringen keeps a number of works by Bätge on house books of various families.
