Sigrid Vierck

Sigrid Vierck born von Ohnesorge (born July 2, 1953 in Cologne ) is a German classical archaeologist and archivist . She was the abbess of the Walsrode monastery .

Life

Sigrid Vierck grew up in Cologne and since the winter semester 1972/73 studied classical archeology, prehistory and early history at the University of Cologne and since the winter semester 1974/75 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . On October 16, 1975, she married the archaeologist Hayo Vierck , who worked there and with whom she had a daughter. After the early death of her husband in 1989, she worked on his extensive scientific legacy. After the 1979 started doctoral thesis for Aegis had resumed and completed it in 1991 at the University of Münster Dr. phil. PhD .

After having been the archivist of the Uelzen district for four years , she went to the Medingen monastery as a conventual in 2004 . In October 2008 she was elected abbess by the convent of the Walsrode monastery. Sigrid Maier-Knapp-Herbst, president of the monastery chamber of Hanover, and Hans-Hermann Jantzen , the state superintendent of Lüneburg, introduced her to her position on April 17, 2009 in a combination of state ceremony and festive service . Eva Countess von Westerholt has been her successor as abbess since January 2020.
