Johann Amsel

Johann Amsel (born June 24, 1665 in Rostock , † October 13, 1732 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

The son of Rostock professor Andreas Amsel and his wife Margaretha Schmidt had received their basic training at the schools in Rostock. There he was enrolled at the University of Rostock in 1674 and studied law from 1684. In addition to his father, Jakob Lembke (1650–1693) and Johann von Klein (1659–1732) directed his training here. In 1686 he moved to the University of Copenhagen and from there to the University of Lund . He continued his further education at the University of Königsberg , where Johann Christoph Boltz and Achaz Christian Ranger (1648–1694) were his teachers. At the Prussian courts in Königsberg he familiarized himself with legal practice.

In 1688 he traveled again to Rostock, was examined on September 22, 1690 in the law faculty and received his doctorate with his brother Thomas on September 6, 1694 as a doctor of law. He then returned to the law faculty of the Königsberg University, where he became an associate professor and senior court attorney in 1696. From 1701 he worked as the first assessor at the Königsberger Hofhalsgericht and was used in various commissions for feudal law and scholarship issues. In 1713 he became third full professor, in 1716 second and in 1726 first professor. He was dean of the law faculty eight times and in the summer semesters of 1719, 1723, 1727 and 1731 four times rector of the alma mater .

He died after his retirement in 1632.

family

In 1697 he married Anna Maria, daughter of the mayor of Kneiphof Christian Feierabend. The marriage has two sons and two daughters. Of the children are known:
