Michael Lilienthal (born September 8, 1686 in Liebstadt ; † January 23, 1750 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German Lutheran theologian and historian.

Life

The son of the royal Prussian official and landowner Michael Lilienthal and his wife Hedwig Sophia, b. Neuschilling, completed a degree in philosophy, languages ​​and history at the University of Königsberg and, in keeping with the customs of the time, undertook an educational journey that took him to the University of Wittenberg , the University of Leipzig and the University of Jena , where he received the academic degree in October 1706 degree of Magister acquired philosophy.

After studying at the University of Rostock , in Hamburg , Kiel , Lübeck and in Holland , he returned to Königsberg in 1711, tried in vain for a professorship at the Königsberg Academy and in 1713 took a position as the second inspector of the alumni. In 1715 he became a deacon in Kneiphof at the cathedral church , in 1719 a deacon at the old town church in Königsberg and in 1727 curator of the Königsberg city library .

He was also an honorary professor at the University of St. Petersburg , a university lecturer in Königsberg and a member of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin. In 1733 he became an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg. In addition to his theological works, Lilienthal has written numerous works on the history of East Prussia and has thus earned lasting merit.

His son Theodor comes from his marriage on November 14, 1713 with Regina Agnes, the daughter of Christoph von Kohlen (* February 22, 1660 - November 4, 1709) and his wife Barbara Pattone (* 1667; July 7, 1727) Christoph Lilienthal , who also became famous as a Königsberg professor.
