Andreas Amsel

Andreas Amsel (born November 18, 1625 in Rostock ; † May 27 or May 28, 1685 there ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Andreas Amsel was born as the son of the secretary at the Rostock law faculty Johannes Amsel. The family originally came from Styria , but had to emigrate because of their denomination. One of his brothers was the lawyer Georg Amsel.

Amsel first attended a Rostock school, from 1641 a Lübeck school . To study, he first moved to the University of Königsberg , then the University of Rostock . He also worked as a court master and traveled as such through England and France . On September 24, 1657 he finished his studies and became a licentiate in law. In 1655 he was appointed university secretary in Rostock, received his doctorate in law in 1674 and, two years later, finally became professor of law / institutions. Since 1681 he taught rights and pandects . In the summer semester of 1682 he was the 522nd rector of the university . He also worked as an assessor for the university consistory and was married to Margarethe Schmidt, whose father was a Rostock mayor. The marriage comes from the legal scholar Johann Amsel (1665–1732). He held the professorship until his death. His successor at both professorships was Johann Festing .
