Johann Festing

Johann Festing , also ( Latinized ) Joannes Festingius (* 1655 in Lübeck ; † August 6, 1691 ibid) was a German legal scholar , university professor and rector .

Life

Johann Festing was the son of the Lübeck citizen and butcher Simon Festing. After attending school at the Katharineum in Lübeck , he studied law at the University of Rostock from 1673 . Further studies led him to the University of Rinteln under Engelbert Wippermann , where he received his doctorate in law (JUD) in 1678 with the dissertation Exhibens Agros Ecclesiasticos Et Religiosos .

On May 3, 1681, Festing was appointed by Duke Christian Ludwig I at the Faculty of Law at Rostock University as ducal full professor of rights / institutions as the successor to Andreas Amsel . On June 30, 1685 he succeeded Amsel again, now as herzogl. ordinary Professor of Rights / Pandects . In addition, Festing was Herzoglich Mecklenburgischer Rat and assessor of the consistory . In the years 1689/1690 he held the office of rector of the university for three semesters. The successor in the first professorship was Albert Willebrand the Elder. J. , successor in the second professorship was Johann von Klein .

Johann Festing was married from 1679 to Anna Ida Soltow (1659-1683), daughter of the Lübeck canon Matthias Soltow († 1678) and his wife Abel Pellicer. In his second marriage from 1684 he was married to Auguste Lucia Mayer (1653–1686) from Lübeck, since 1680 widow of the ducal Mecklenburg district administrator Johann Levin Ferber , daughter of the lawyer and councilor in Lübeck August Meyer and his wife Christina von der Clären. Johann Festing died on a trip to Lübeck on August 6, 1691.
