Engelbert Wippermann

Engelbert Wippermann (* around 1630 in Bremen ; † May 28, 1687 in Rinteln ) was a Protestant German legal scholar. He was a lawyer, privy councilor and professor.

Life

Engelbert Wippermann was the son of Jodokus / Jobst Wippermann, canon and dean at St. Ansgari in Bremen , and his wife Margarethe Hake, daughter of Mayor Haken in Nienburg . He was married to Marie Wippermann, daughter of Hermann Wippermann, dean of the St. Ansgari Church in Bremen. The couple had two sons (both died in their youth) and three daughters. He was related to Engelbert Wippermann (* ca. 1549; † 1621), canon in Bremen, council, syndicus, envoy and donor, who had established the Wippermann-Heistermann family foundation with a professorship in Rinteln on June 11, 1621 The witch theorist Hermann Goehausen was the first holder of the professorship of this family foundation .

Engelbert Wippermann completed a law degree at the University of Helmstedt in 1649 and as holder of the family scholarship in Rinteln and Frankfurt an der Oder , in 1653 in Jena and Leipzig . He stayed for a while in Speyer at the Reich Chamber of Commerce .

In 1658 he received his doctorate in law from the University of Rinteln . After the death of Hermann Goehausen on July 11, 1659 he became the second holder of the Wippermann family professorship in Rinteln as Professor juris canonici. Later he was a senior at the university and a senior professor at the law school. He died on May 28, 1687 in Rinteln.
