Hayo Vierck (born August 5, 1939 in Bentheim , † March 16, 1989 in Reichenau ) was a German archaeologist who shaped German early medieval archeology through research into the craft .

Life

Hayo Vierck was a son of Pastor Theodor Vierck . Even as a young high school student he was interested in the history and archeology of Schleswig-Holstein and had contact with Haithabu early on . After graduating from the boarding school at Schloss Plön in 1962 , Vierck studied Prehistory and Early History with the minor subjects Classical Archeology and Folklore at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . With a doctoral thesis with Joachim Werner , he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He then completed a second study at the University of Oxford , he specialized in European Archeology with the B. Litt. Oxon graduated. From 1969 to 1985 he worked in the Collaborative Research Center 7 Medieval Research at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and lecturer for arts and crafts in the early Middle Ages at the seminar for prehistory and early history. The main research areas were the work of Eligius and the Imitatio Imperii . He was particularly interested in the English royal tomb Sutton Hoo . He died of dilated cardiomyopathy at the age of 49 and was buried in the Flintbek cemetery. He left his wife Sigrid Vierck, nee. v. Unesorge, a classical archaeologist, and a daughter. The estate that his wife has processed has been in the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz since 2005 .
