Detlef Altenburg

Detlef Altenburg (born January 9, 1947 in Hersfeld ; † February 8, 2016 in Regensburg ) was a German musicologist.

Life

Altenburg studied musicology, Protestant theology , religious studies and philosophy in Marburg and Cologne , where he received his doctorate in 1973. He stayed there as a research assistant and completed his habilitation in 1980. In 1980/81 he took over a professorship at the University of Göttingen . In 1983 he was visiting professor at the Universidade Nova in Lisbon . From 1983 to 1994 he taught at the University of Paderborn and at the Music Academy Detmold ( Musicology Seminar Detmold / Paderborn ). From 1994 to 1999 he was full professor and director of the Institute for Musicology at the University of Regensburg . In 1999 he accepted an appointment at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , where he was director of the joint institute for musicology at the HfM Weimar and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena from November 1999 until his retirement . The focus of his academic work was on the music of the 17th and 18th centuries as well as the music and musical notions of the 19th century. Numerous publications by Altenburg concerned Franz Liszt .

From 2001 to 2009 Altenburg was President of the Society for Music Research . He was also a member of the Presidium of the German Music Council from 2003 to 2009 . He has also been a member of the Academy of Non-profit Sciences in Erfurt since 2000 and a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences since 2006 . He was a member of the Academia Europaea .
