The deceptive thousand-leaf ( Myriophyllum simulans ) is a species of the thousand-leaf genus ( Myriophyllum ) in the thousand-leaf family (Haloragaceae).

The deceptive thousand-leaf is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches a growth length of 30 to 50 centimeters. It grows as an underwater plant or above water ( hydrophyte ).
This species is single sexed ( monoecious ). The sessile, male flowers contain sepals , 2.5 to 3 mm long, reddish petals and eight stamens . The sessile, female flowers are missing sepals and petals; they contain pink or red scars. The bracts are usually round, slightly fleshy and with entire margins. There is a gland at its tip. The egg-shaped, 1 mm long, reddish partial fruits are rounded and bumpy on the back.
The flowering period extends from June to October.
Occurrence
The deceptive thousand-leaf occurs in Southeast Australia and Tasmania in swamps, lakes and rivers with low flow speeds.

This species is often used as an aquarium plant and rarely as an ornamental plant in garden ponds. It has been in culture since 1983 at the latest.
