The underground station went into operation on April 28, 1935 with the opening of line 11, which at that time ran on the section from Châtelet to Porte des Lilas . It is 75 m long and has two side platforms on two main tracks. Due to the nature of the ground, it consists of two parallel stations that are separated from each other by a supporting wall with multiple perforations between the tracks. Their cross-sections are elliptical , the walls and part of the ceilings are tiled in white.

The three entrances are on the east side of the station in Rue de Belleville at the confluence of Rue du Télégraphe. They are each marked by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style .

vehicles

Initially, conventional Sprague-Thomson trains ran on line 11 . In the mid-1950s, it was the first to be prepared for passenger use with rubber-tired vehicles. The MP 55 series was used for the first time on November 13, 1956. In January 1999 they were replaced by the MP 59 series , and MP 73 trains have also been running since 2009 .

Others

Because of its depth, the subway station was considered one of the safest air raid shelters in the city during World War II .

Surroundings

The Cimetière de Belleville cemetery is in the immediate vicinity of the station .
