Téoulier
Téoulier or Téoulier Noir is a red wine variety that is cultivated in the Provence region in south-eastern France . There, for example, it is still permitted in the appellation range , although it is rarely grown. Today the variety has almost completely disappeared; official surveys in 1988 showed a population of 0.8 hectares .
The late-ripening variety sprouts very early and is therefore endangered by spring frosts. If the yields are severely limited, the variety produces deep dark wines that improve the color when blended . It was therefore often used as a dye grape ( French : Teinturier ). Téoulier is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
There is also a white variety called Téoulier Blanc .
