Tünkenhagen
The Tünkenhagen is a street in Lübeck's old town .
location
The approximately 90 meter long Tünkenhagen is located in the northeast of the old town island, in the Jakobi quarter . It begins on Glockengießerstrasse opposite the confluence of the Langen Loberg , runs south and ends at Hundestrasse opposite the confluence of the Rosengarten .
history
The street is first mentioned in a document in 1313 as Tunnekenhagen , named after Johann Tunneken . In 1294 he had acquired the large property on the corner of Glockengießerstraße, which at that time occupied almost the entire west side of the street (corresponding to today's house numbers 2 to 16) and on which a row of eaves houses had been located since at least 1429.
In the centuries that followed, this name persists, even if it experiences variations and misinterpretations:
- 1435: Tunckenhagen
- 1614: Tuneckenhagen
- 1755: Tönnchenhagen
The current street name was officially established in 1852.
The Tünkenhagen was not affected by the destruction caused by the bombing of 1942 , which is why it still shows a coherent image of historical buildings.
