The Lange Lohberg is a street in Lübeck's old town .

location

The approximately 260 meter long Lange Lohberg is located in the northeast of the old town island, in the Jakobi quarter . It begins at the Großer Gröpelgrube and runs southwards, initially with Gerberstraße from the west and shortly afterwards from the east the Lohberg . Across from Tünkenhagen , the Lange Lohberg finally meets the Glockengießerstraße and ends.

history

The street was first mentioned in documents in 1287 under the Low German name Im Poggenpole (Im Froschtümpel), which refers to the fact that this area on the banks of the Wakenitz formed a swampy lowland before it was built, some of which did not take place until the end of the 13th century . This designation initially remains dominant, but alternative names are also used:

  • 1299: Pockgenpol
  • 1302: Poggenpol
  • 1322: Dwestrate inter plateam campaniorum et fossam lutifigulorum (Low German- Latin : cross street between Glockengießerstraße and Großer Gröpelgrube)
  • 1323: Dwerstrate quae est inter plateam campaniorum et Poggenpole (cross street between Glockengießerstraße and Poggenpohl)
  • 1373: Dwerstrate dicta Poggenpul (cross street, called Poggenpohl)

In 1393 Super Lohberge (Latin-Low German: Auf dem Lohberg) is recorded as a name for the first time . This designation refers to the residents in the area and working tanner , who establish themselves with their strong-smelling craft at the edge of the city had and also the adjacent area of the Far Lohberg for the storage of their Lohe used.

  • 1393: Up dem Looberge (Auf dem Lohberg)
  • 1408: Pogkenpoel , the last use of this ancient name
  • 1581: Loheberg
  • 1601: Looberghe
  • 1644: Lohberg

The current name, to clearly distinguish it from the small Lohberg, which was named identically for a long time, with the addition of Lang , was officially established in 1852.
