Türbe of the bride

The construction from the north

The Türbe of the Bride ( Albanian  Tyrbja e Nuses ) is a tomb and a nationally significant cultural monument near the village of Mullet south of the capital of Albania .

The historic Muslim Türbe is a small, square building. Four rectangular pillars, which are connected by arches, support a roof with a round structure, which resembles a small dome or a drum . Since the mausoleum almost seems only to consist of the four pillars, it is also Katërkëmbësh ( German  quadrupeds called).

The tomb dates from the 16th or 17th century. Together with the Türbe of Poloska near Korça , which was built around the year 1500, it is considered the oldest Türbe in the country.

There are several different versions of the creation of the tomb. One reports that a bride was accidentally hit by a stray bullet at this location when two warring groups shot at each other while the wedding party was out there. The Türbe was then erected in memory of the young woman. Another story even tells of two dead women: tradition required that brides exchange veils if they happen to meet on the road. One is said to have refused and therefore shot the other. Then she was shot by the groom of the murdered. The two brides are said to have died on the same day and were buried in the same tomb.

The tomb is about seven kilometers as the crow flies south of Tirana on a meadow outside the village. The ore flows around 300 meters south ; the castle and village of Petrela are enthroned on a hill on the south bank .

The Türbe has been a religious cultural monument of Albania since 1963. Today the road to the village of Mullet runs around ten meters away and the newly constructed A3 motorway runs around 100 meters away from the river bank .
