history

In the former community of Gehrden in 1909 the previous compulsory fire brigade was replaced by the newly founded volunteer fire brigade Gehrden. The equipment with two fire engines , hoses, ladders, fire hooks and fire buckets was taken over. The building on Steinweg on the corner of the Steintor, which was used to house the equipment, was expanded into a syringe house in 1910 by adding a hose and riser tower .

Instead of the previous equipment with fire engines, the Gehrden fire brigade received its first fire engine in 1959 . This only just fit into the old syringe house. In 1962, the fire brigade received a modern fire station on Nordstrasse on the other side of the stone gate , which in turn was replaced by a more spacious new building in 2009.

The old syringe house was not immediately demolished because the property belonging to the city seemed too small for a new building.

The Gehrden businessman Walter Meyer finally had the idea of accommodating a bar in the syringe house . The renovation and remodeling work took about ten months. The base and the sandstone arch in the interior were sandblasted and sealed. The color design of the walls was based on analyzed paint residues.

The four-storey half - timbered tower built in 1910 and the historicist castle- style facade on the street front made the listed building an eye-catcher at the northern entrance to the city center. A section of the Steinweg, the former main thoroughfare of Gehrden, had meanwhile become a pedestrian zone . The turret is on the rest of the traffic-calmed area.

The interior of the syringe house had an area of 48 m². After the installation of sanitary facilities, kitchen and cold room, 25 m² remained for the dining room . In this area there were 32 seats and about twice as many standing places in front of the counter. The turret opened on April 4, 1976. The atmosphere created by the narrow space and innovative advertising campaigns for its time attracted the public.
