Tęczyński is the name of a Polish noble family . The female form of the name is Tęczyńska . The name Tęczyński was first mentioned in the 14th century . The aristocratic family spread mainly in the Lesser Poland region and acquired numerous estates there.

The first documented named Tęczyński was Nawój of Morawica in 1331, a castellan from Kraków . His son Andrzej Tęczyński († 1368) was voivode of Kraków and had the family seat built, the Tęczyn Castle in Rudno, probably in 1319 . The high state offices and estates that were acquired helped the noble family in Lesser Poland to rise to the rank of magnate politically and economically . Andrzej Tęczyński († 1536) also acquired the hereditary title of Imperial Count from the Roman-German Emperor in 1527 .

The line died out with Jan Magnus Tęczyński in 1637 in the male line .
