The light rail line ( Turkish "Hafif Metro" ) T4 is a local transport line in the European part of Istanbul , which - like the metro lines - is operated by the local transport company Istanbul Ulasim . The route includes 22 stations. The 14.7 km long rail line is next to the Metro , the tram , the tram lines and the Metrobüs expected to become the backbone of public transport in the 15-million city.
history
The first part of the route was opened in 2007 between Topkapı and Sultançiftliği. After that, the line was quickly expanded to the northwest.
In 2009, the second part from Şehitlik to Topkapı was added to the existing route to the south in order to create a transfer option to the metro (M1) and the T1 tram line.
Classification as Stadtbahn or "Hafif-Metro"
Seven of the 22 stations on the T4 are tunnel stations (such as the U-Stadtbahn). These are the stations Edirnekapı, Topçular, Rami, Uluyol-Bereç, Ali Fuat Başgil, Taşköprü and Karadeniz. All other stations also comply with the Stadtbahn standard, i.e. fixed, raised central platforms in the middle of the street, which allow level entry and access via pedestrian bridges, underpasses or ground-level light signal- controlled crossings. The T4 does not run within road traffic, but on its own track structure that is structurally separated from the rest of the traffic, but which can be crossed by pedestrians in the area of stations. Furthermore, the line crosses the crossing road traffic at intersections; there are traffic lights here. Thus, the T4 is a classic light rail (similar to the systems in Cologne , Frankfurt and Stuttgart ) and not a "full-fledged" subway .
The same high-floor vehicles are still used on the M1 A / B that also drive on the T4, which is why the M1 is often also part of the Hafif Metro system. However, unlike the T4, the M1 is a “real” subway due to its track structure, which is completely separated from the rest of the traffic and lies on its own route, and is consequently also included in the Istanbul subway system because of the 'M' in its line designation; however, the light rail line T4 is officially T for "Tramvay" meaning " tram called".
Expansion planning
The city administration plans to expand the T4 from Mecid-i Selam by one station in the north-west direction to Habibler. An exact time schedule is still pending, however, as the type of development in this area on the extreme northwestern outskirts of Istanbul has not yet been specifically determined.
Technical specifications
As with all other S, U and tram systems in Istanbul, the gauge of the T4 is based on the standard gauge of 1435 mm. The tram gets its power from an overhead line.
course
At its southern end, the T4 begins in the Topkapı district. Here the route runs in a north-easterly direction. At the Topkapı station, you can change to the T1 tram, which runs in an east-west direction . After two stops, you can change to the M1 underground line in Vatan . After the Vatan station, the T4 makes a curve and runs to its end on the northern outskirts of Istanbul in Habipler, always in a north-westerly direction under the boulevards Edirnekapı-Rami Caddesi, Rami Kışla Caddesi and Eski Edirne Asfaltı.
The T4 opens up the heavily populated northern districts and offers a feeder to the metro (M1) , especially for commuters living there, and thus a fast connection to the transcontinental S-Bahn network of the Marmaray lines due to the gap under construction between Aksaray and Yenikapı .
Line color, mesh and line symbol
The line identification color of the T4 in the Istanbul Ulasim network map is orange.

Rates
The T4 is integrated into the Istanbul public transport tariff system, which means that the same tokens and tickets that are valid in the metro, S-Bahn, Metrobus, bus, on ferries and in the (funicular) cable cars are also used for the light rail line can be. Not only the underground stations, but also the tram-like stops on the T4 line are provided with barriers. It is not possible to redeem or validate tickets on the trains.
