The class E 43000 of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) is an electric locomotive designed by the Japanese company Toshiba .

Technical specifications

A total of 45 units of this type were built at Tülomsaş (Türkiye Lokomotif ve Motor Sanayii A.Ş.) and delivered to the TCDD from 1987 onwards. The locomotive weighs 120 tonnes and is 14.94 m long, and the six traction motors have a total of 3180 kW. It thus achieves a tractive effort of 275 kN. The machines run on three two-axle bogies . In the original paint scheme, the locomotives have a light blue roof and a medium blue frame, the locomotive body is white with diagonal stripes in both shades of blue.

Due to the different types of overhead contact lines and clearance profiles in earlier and more recent route electrification in Turkey, the machines have pantographs with different pallet widths. One is 1950 mm wide and is mainly required on the lines in western Turkey, the other is 1600 mm wide and is used on the lines that will later be electrified.

commitment

The locomotives were initially intended for heavy goods traffic on the Haydarpaşa - Eskişehir and Divriği - İskenderun routes and only designed for a maximum speed of 90 km / h.

Due to a lack of electric locomotives for express trains, especially in connection with the electrification of the Eskişehir – Sincan ( Ankara ) line in 1992, some locomotives were given axle drives with a modified gear ratio, which allowed a maximum speed of 120 km / h. To distinguish between the previously white cab doors of the machines approved for 120 km / h were painted red. Despite the E 52500 series locomotives rented by ŽFBH , there is still a shortage of electric locomotives for passenger transport in Turkey, so that the E 43000 series locomotives that have not been converted are occasionally used in front of passenger trains.

Since 2005, the TCDD's passenger trains (locomotives and wagons) have been painted in a new white-red-blue color scheme, the roof and frame of the E 43000 series are painted blue, the actual locomotive body is still white, but with red decorative lines above and below. The locomotives are used on all electrified lines on the Turkish railway network.
