The TES type (derived from T anker, E astern, S team) was a series tanker type that was built in British shipyards during the Second World War . The units belong to the group of Empire ships .
The series was built on behalf of the Ministry of War Transport (MOWT) to be used for service with the South East Asia Command (SEAC) in the Far East. The design of the TES standard tanker with a length of around 61 meters, a load capacity of around 900 tonnes, superstructures arranged somewhat in front of amidships and an engine room located aft resembled contemporary tankers. The cargo tanks formed a so-called trunk in the ship's hull , an elevation that ran from the forecastle under the deckhouse and extended well beyond the main deck to the raised poop . A triple expansion steam engine served as the drive system. All units were delivered in 1945/46 and were given two-part names with empire and an appended term that began with the prefix Tes . The construction series of a total of 7 units was carried out by the shipyards Bartram & Sons in Sunderland, Swan Hunter in Wallsend and Harland & Wolff in Glasgow. Another four ships of the type were ordered in 1946 or were under construction, but were canceled.
