The bulk carrier type Tsuneishi Economical Standard Ship 58 , or TESS 58 for short , was built in large series in Japan and is considered one of the standard ships in its market segment.
The first TESS series was designed from 1981 by the Japanese shipbuilding group Tsuneishi Zosen on behalf of the Norwegian shipping company Ugland and delivered as the TESS 40 from 1984 . Ten years later, the further development TESS 45 followed with a higher load capacity and from 1999 the even more powerful type TESS 52 . In 2003, the TESS 52 was developed into the TESS 58 mainly by designing it for a larger draft. In May 2014 the TESS 64 Aeroline, a further development of the TESS 58 with an increased load capacity of 63,700 tons, was presented. A total of over 300 units of the entire TESS series have been built so far.
The TESS 58 ships are as Supramax - bulk carriers with aft mounted constructions designed. You have five cargo holds with a total cargo hold volume of 72,500 m³ for bulk goods. Each hold is served by its own hatch, the hatch covers of which are operated hydraulically. The degree of deck opening is larger than that of the older types. Four hydraulic ship cranes mounted amidships are available for cargo handling . This type of ship can transport 58,100 tonnes at maximum unloading at 12.8 meters. The units are designed for the transport of various bulk goods , such as grain, coal, minerals, including various dangerous goods. The tank roof of the cargo hold is reinforced for the transport of ore. In addition, bagged goods, steel profiles, tubes and other bulk cargo can be transported, but no deck loads.
The ships are powered by a two - stroke diesel engine . The engine enables a speed of around 14.5 knots . Several auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator are available.
