Under the type designation TF 14/24 S , the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) ran a series of 15 tram cars that were put into operation by the Berlin Eastern Railways in 1914 . The Berlin Ostbahnen procured the cars for their lines that did not run through the Spreetunnel Stralau – Treptow and could therefore have the usual car profile. Five railcars with the numbers 42–46 and ten sidecars with the numbers 143–152 were put into service. In 1919 the trailer cars 148–152 were converted into railcars.
When they were taken over by the Berlin tram, the cars were given the numbers 4116-4125 (railcars) and 1475-1479. In 1924, the remaining sidecars were also converted due to a lack of railcars and adapted to the other vehicles. Presumably the ten other railcars were externally rebuilt during this time, whereby they received the Berlin standard platforms and the number of side windows was increased from 5 to 7. After the conversion, 15 similar vehicles were available. They had end entrances on the platforms as well as transverse seats with folding arms in the interior.
One railcar was lost in World War II , another was not rebuilt after the fighting ended. When the administration of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, founded in 1929, was divided on August 1, 1949, three vehicles remained in West Berlin and ten cars in East Berlin . The cars stationed at BVG-West were retired in 1950. The chassis from car 4117 was, however, used for the construction of a TF 50 multiple unit. The vehicles at BVG-Ost were converted in 1950/51. The railcars 4120 and 4122 came primarily on the island line 96 between Teltow and the Machnower lock .
In 1957 five railcars were handed over to the Karl-Marx-Stadt tram . Three more railcars came to the Strausberger Eisenbahn in 1959 , but were never used there. The two remaining cars were retired by the end of 1959. None of the railcars has been preserved in a museum.
