La Malbaie is a city in the MRC Charlevoix-Est of the Canadian province of Québec .

It is located on the north bank of the Saint Lawrence River 143 km northeast of the provincial capital Québec .

According to the 2006 census, the city had 15,013 inhabitants. The area is 470.57 km².

La Malbaie was created in 1896 as a municipalité de village . In 1958 the place received city rights. Between February 15, 1995 and December 1, 1999, the city was named La Malbaie-Pointe-au-Pic , but then returned to its old name.

The 44th G7 summit took place here in June 2018 .
