The TSV Gnarrenburg is a sports club from Gnarrenburg in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) . The first soccer team played two years in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony and one year in the highest amateur league in Bremen.

history

In 1891 employees of the local Marienhütte glassworks founded the Gnarrenburg gymnastics club . Other employees founded the Gnarrenburg gaming association in 1920 . Both clubs merged in 1937 to form TSV Gnarrenburg .

In 1949 the TSV became champions of the district class Stade-Mitte and reached the promotion round to the newly created amateur league of Lower Saxony . The decisive game against RSV Lehrte ended in front of 5,600 spectators - Gnarrenburg only had 2,000 inhabitants at the time - 3: 3, which helped the teachers. The Gnarrenburger were transferred to the amateur league Bremen . There the team had numerous starting problems, as their own place had to be straightened due to a steep incline.

After TSV finished the season eighth and the 1950/51 season had already started, the Gnarrenburgers had to switch to the Lower Saxony-West amateur league . Due to many catch-up games, it was only enough for the penultimate place, which meant relegation. A year later, TSV became champions of the amateur league 6 and prevailed in the following round of promotion. But even in the second attempt, the amateur league turned out to be too big for TSV. With only nine points and 144 goals conceded, the Gnarrenburg were relegated from bottom of the table.

In 1954 the TSV almost passed through and managed to stay in the league only after the playoffs against Bremervörder SC and TuS Syke . The club stayed in the amateur league for four more years before relegation to the district level in 1958. Between 1996 and 1998 the TSV reached the Landesliga Lüneburg again . Since relegation in 2018, the first team has played in the 1st district class in Rotenburg.
