history
After a failed attempt to found an association in 1814, nine Idstein participants of the 1st Feldberg Festival, a gymnastics festival, founded the Idstein gymnastics community on their return on June 23, 1844 . On August 20, 1846, the board of the newly formed gymnastics community - which meanwhile had 45 members - submitted a request for approval, which was granted on October 6, 1846.
After participating in gymnastics festivals in the region, the gymnastics community became a member of the newly founded Turngau Nassau-Süd in 1862 .
In the absence of a gym, a building fund was set up in 1877 to promote the acquisition of building land and the construction of a gym. In order to acquire a piece of land, the Turngemeinde was initially granted the status of a legal person . This took place on May 16, 1892 when the club's name was changed to Turnverein Idstein . The gym was inaugurated on June 11, 1893.
After the French occupying forces confiscated the gymnasium as a result of the First World War in 1918, the club members were able to put it back into operation at the end of 1926. In 1932 the association's board refused to make the hall available for an NSDAP event , but this position could no longer be maintained in the following years. After the end of the war, the handball department was one of the first to resume playing. The first general meeting took place on April 6, 1947, and the association was "re-established" on August 27, 1947. On May 20, 1948, the gymnastics club 1844 Idstein jP im Taunus received its license with the sports gymnastics and gymnastics, handball, netball, soccer, swimming and hiking.
In the following decades, the athletics and gymnastics department in particular shaped the association's public image with successes at German gymnastics festivals and regional gymnastics festivals. In 1967 the Zissenbach sports field was inaugurated. In 1978 Wolfgang Heller was elected first chairman. In addition, the range of sports on offer has been steadily expanded over the years. In 1983 a merger of the two "big" Idsteiner sports clubs, TSG 1879 and TV 1844 Idstein, was considered for the first time in order to achieve a better positioning of the clubs and their total of around 1,800 members in relation to regional associations and the district. The idea was rejected.
The foundation stone of the new hall at Hexenturm was laid for the 150th anniversary of the association on June 23, 1994 , after the old TV gym was demolished in December of the previous year after almost 100 years. In the years after the turn of the millennium, the idea of merging TSG and TV to form a new major club, which had been rejected twenty years earlier, came up again. With the conclusion of the negotiations, the merger was decided by the members of both associations. The departments of TSG 1879 (especially football and table tennis) were incorporated into TV 1844 Idstein and TSG Idstein formally dissolved. Since then, TV Idstein has around 4500 members.
Handball department
history
The handball department of TV Idstein was founded in 1922. After the end of the war, games were resumed in 1946 with a women's, men's and youth team, and in 1952 the first men's team rose to what was then the highest Hessian league, the state class. From 1955 to 1975 Heinrich Gerheim was chairman of the department. After his death, Dieter Prokop took over the chairmanship. In 1976 the handball department had reached its lowest point, followed by a restructuring of the department with expansion of the women's and youth department. In 1982 Andreas Reuther succeeded Manfred Baum as head of department. Today (2019) Frank Stübing is head of department.
successes
In 1986 the first men's team after years in the district class under the player- coach Richard Boczkowski was able to advance to the Oberliga Hessen, to which it belonged until 2000. Since the relegation associated with the restructuring of the Hessian handball league after the 1999/2000 season, the team has been playing in the newly created Landesliga Mitte of the Hessian Handball Association . However, the men's team rose in the 2018/20219 season, they reached the championship and will be promoted to the national league.
The first women's team was also able to celebrate promotion to the Oberliga Hessen in 1996. In the summer of 1999 promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest was achieved. After relegation in 2007, the direct resurgence was achieved a year later. Also in 2007, the team reached the second main round of the DHB Cup , in which they were eliminated against the HSG Siebengebirge / Thomasberg . In 2010 they were relegated to the league again because they missed qualification for the newly founded 3rd division . In the 2018/19 season she played in the national league again.
