The Gymnastics Club Schwetzingen 1864 eV ( TV 1864 ) is the largest club in the Palatinate city of Schwetzingen . The most successful department in terms of sport are the handball players who, as HG Oftersheim / Schwetzingen (HGO), have formed a game community with TSV Oftersheim from the neighboring community of Oftersheim since 1997 .

General

The club is a multi-discipline club that offers different sports in several departments. TV 64 has almost 3000 members, which makes it the club with the largest number of members in Schwetzingen. In addition, since it was founded in 1864, it is one of the oldest clubs in Schwetzingen.

The focus of the TV 64 is on popular sport; the basketball department and the handball department are the figureheads of sporting success. Other departments make an equally important contribution to society by conveying the "we" feeling and thus also being actively involved in club life. The association is known regionally in the fitness and prevention area, which is assigned to the gymnastics department.

Handball

The most successful sporting division of the club is the handball department: the handball men belonged to the 2nd Bundesliga South handball league for two years - in the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons , followed by the HG Oftersheim / Schwetzingen (HGO) team from the 2004 season / 05 another five years in the Bundesliga lower house between 2004 and 2009.

In the HGO gaming community, handball is played in three active men's teams in all performance areas. The successful youth work with participation in the youth league handball 2011/11 and 2013/14 is known nationwide.

Sports facilities

The Friedrichstrasse gymnasium is centrally located in Schwetzingen city center and is housed in a wing of the Marstall building. The gymnastics and table tennis departments are primarily at home here. The part of the building also houses the association's office. The Friedrichturnhalle has been used by the association since the 1920s. The hall, which used to be the stables of soldiers from the Electoral Palatinate and Baden, is owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg .

In addition to the Friedrichstrasse gymnasium in the city center, the club has other sports facilities of its own. On the southern outskirts of Schwetzingen, on the Hardtwald , is the sports field on Sternallee with the TV clubhouse. In addition to the tennis courts for the tennis department, there is also a large court for track and field athletes and leisure football groups, as well as a hard court for handball and basketball players. The sports field borders directly on the extensive Schwetzinger Hardt and is the starting point for joggers and other outdoor enthusiasts. Adjacent is the TV clubhouse with a large terrace.
