The TZW: DVGW-Technologiezentrum Wasser is dedicated to technical and scientific issues of the water cycle with a special focus on drinking water . Around 200 employees work in research and scientific advice. Since it was founded in 1991, the TZW has developed into a platform for exchange on the subject of water. The annual income consists mainly of research funding and contracts from companies in the water industry. The TZW is an organizationally and financially independent, non-profit institution of the German Association of Gas and Water (DVGW) . The TZW has locations in Karlsruhe, Dresden and Hamburg .
tasks
Through the interaction of science and practice, the TZW develops concepts for water suppliers , industrial companies, specialist authorities and universities. Interdisciplinary teams from the following areas work together on the individual projects:
- Groundwater and soil,
- Analytics and water quality,
- Technology and economy,
- Microbiology and molecular biology,
- Environmental biotechnology and contaminated sites,
- Water chemistry research,
- the water and corrosion testing facility as well
- Distribution networks and house installation.
The TZW is the point of contact for authorities, ministries and associations in matters of water quality , drinking water quality and water technology. It acts as a link between DVGW, universities, water supply companies and international working groups in the Rhine catchment area such as the AWBR. It is a member of the international association for water research (GWRC Global Water Research Coalition) and other research associations such as WaterEurope, IWA, EurEau and the Water Innovation Circle.
Work areas
solutions
The TZW carries out technical and scientific projects with and for customers. The focus is on future-oriented and innovative solutions based on research results, technical rules and practical experience. The work areas cover the entire water cycle:
- Water analysis,
- Testing of products and devices,
- Processing technologies,
- Substances and microorganisms,
- Network management and drinking water installation,
- Risk management and
- Contaminated sites.
research
The TZW conducts interdisciplinary, national and international research in the field of water. Core tasks are practical research and development work, the results of which are directly applied or prepared and implemented with future subject areas and the DVGW set of rules.
In around 50 research projects every year, the TZW develops concepts and processes in cooperation with water suppliers, companies, scientific institutions and authorities. Research activities focus on the areas of resource protection, environmental biotechnology, substance evaluation, microbiology, wastewater and the water cycle, technologies, products and processes, water distribution and infrastructure as well as security, digitization and management.
The research projects are sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) , the German Gas and Water Association (DVGW) , the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU) , the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the Working Group of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) and the EU research framework program funded.
history
Since 1859, the German Gas and Water Association (DVGW) has been promoting research into gas and water supply in Germany .
The TZW was founded as the DVGW Water Technology Center in 1991 from the "Water Chemistry" department of the DVGW Research Center at the Engler-Bunte Institute of the University of Karlsruhe. In 1991, a branch of the TZW opened in Dresden as the successor to the GDR Water Technology Research Center. The branch has been located in the Hosterwitz waterworks since 2006 . At the beginning of July 1995, the new building in Karlsruhe-Hagsfeld with offices, technical rooms and laboratories was moved into.
Josef Klinger took over the management of TZW in 2010 as successor to Wolfgang Kühn. In 2013 and 2017, extensive expansions and modernizations of the locations took place.
