Tabaré is a Mexican film by the film directors Luis Lazema and Juan Canals de Homs from 1917. The silent film is a historical film and melodrama . The half-Spanish Indian prince Tabaré iscapturedby the Spanish during the conquest of what is now Uruguay . He falls in love with Blanca, who is the daughter of one of the conquerors, Gonzalo. When the city is invaded, Blanca is kidnapped. Tabaré sets out to save her. He can save her, but is killed by Gonzalo, who thinks Tabaré is one of the kidnappers.
Tabaré was produced by Mexico Films . The film is based on the epic poem "Tabaré" by Juan Zorrilla de San Martín . In 1946 Luis Lazema shot a remake under the same title , in which Ezequiel Carrasco was again responsible for the camera work.
