Tacchini is an impact crater on the easternmost edge of the front of the moon , on the northern edge of Mare Smythii , northeast of the Schubert crater . The crater is badly eroded and especially the northeast part of the wall is almost leveled.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1973 after the Italian astronomer Pietro Tacchini .
