Pietro Tacchini (born March 21, 1838 in Modena , †  March 25, 1905 there ) was an Italian astronomer .

Life

Tacchini became director of the Modena observatory in 1859. From 1863 he was mainly concerned with observing the sun at the Palermo observatory and then became director of the Roman Collegium observatory in Rome .

With Angelo Secchi , Tacchini founded the Italian Spectroscopic Society in 1871 , in whose writings he has since published the results of his investigations. In 1874 he observed the passage of Venus in India .

Tacchini received the Rumford Medal in 1888 .

Pietro Tacchini died on March 25, 1905 in his hometown. The lunar crater Tacchini and the asteroid (8006) Tacchini were named after him.
