Lake Tagalala is a steppe lake at the confluence of the Rufiji and Beho-Beho rivers in the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania ( East Africa ).
It has a surface of about 2 km² and at the end of the rainy season a maximum depth of 12 meters (on average only about 2 meters). This makes it the largest stagnant body of water in the Selous. The lake does not dry out even in long periods of drought, as it is fed by several sources, some on the shore and some under the surface. In the event of very strong flooding in the middle of the rainy season, it forms a joint water surface with the Rufiji.
The lake is home to large numbers of crocodiles and hippos , as well as numerous species of waders and water birds. In the dry season, giraffes , elephants , lions and numerous species of antelopes come here, sometimes over long distances, as there are hardly any other water points to the north and west.
There are several lodges near the lake, some of which also offer boat trips as a safari on Lake Tagalala.
