Taika

Taika ( Japanese 大化 'Great Turnaround' ) is a Japanese era ( Nengō ) from July 645 to February 650 according to the Gregorian calendar . Taika is the first official era name, the following second era is called Hakuchi . The era falls during the reign of the emperor ( Tennō ) Kōtoku .

The first day of the Taika era corresponds to July 17, 645; the last day was March 21, 650. The Taika era lasted six years or 1709 days.

The naming of the government currencies (Nengō) was not used consistently at the beginning and overlaps with the reigns of the Tennō .
