Tajmuras Dschambekowitsch Mamsurow ( Russian Таймура́з Дзамбе́кович Мамсу́ров , Ossetian Мамсыраты Дзамбеджы фырт Таймураз ; born April 13, 1954 ) is a Russian politician in Beslan . He was president of the Russian republic of North Ossetia-Alania in the North Caucasus . He was the successor to Alexander Dzazochow , who had voluntarily resigned from his post on May 31, 2005.

Career

Mamsurov graduated from the Faculty of Industry and Construction of the North Caucasian Metallurgical Institute in 1976 . In 1989 he completed his postgraduate -Studies at the Academy of Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the CPSU from. Between 1983 and 1986 he was the first secretary of the regional committee of the Soviet youth organization Komsomol . From 1990 to 1994 Mamsurov held the position of chairman of the executive committee in the Council of the North Ossetian People's Deputy. He then worked as the administrative director of the Province of Pravobereschni (Правобережный).

In March 1995 Mamsurov was elected to the parliament of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, where he was appointed deputy chairman of the parliament. After Dzazokhov's victory in the presidential elections in February 1998, he was appointed chairman of the North Ossetian government.

After Dzazochow resigned, Mamsurov was proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the presidential post of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. In June 2005 his candidacy was officially confirmed by the North Ossetian Parliament.

Mamsurow is a member of the North Ossetian branch of the ruling United Russia party and is a staunch Kremlin loyalist.

In April 2015, Mamsurov announced that he no longer wanted to run for the office of President of the republic. Two months later he resigned from his post.
