Takashi Nagao ( Japanese 長尾 敬 , Nagao Takashi ; born November 29, 1962 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician ( Democratic PartyLiberal Democratic Party ) and for the 14th constituency of Osaka a member of the House of Representatives , the lower house of the National Assembly . Since October 2018 ( Cabinet Shinzō Abe IV (1st reshuffle) ) he has been Parliamentary State Secretary in the Cabinet Office .

Nagao graduated from Ritsumeikan University in 1986 and then worked for Meiji Life Insurance . In 2002 he left the company and switched to politics. As a Democrat, he ran in the House of Representatives elections in 2003 and 2005 in the constituency of Osaka 14, but was defeated both times by the liberal-democratic incumbent Takashi Tanihata . It was only in the third attempt that he was able to clearly prevail in the nationwide LDP landslide defeat in 2009 against Tanihata. For the 2012 general election , Nagao moved to the LDP. For this he was clearly defeated in Osaka 14 by Tanihata (now Nippon Ishin no Kai ). In 2014 Nagao lost just under 2,000 votes and with this narrow defeat won a seat on the LDP list in the proportional representation in Kinki. In 2017 , he won by less than 2000 votes ahead of Tanihata. In 2018, after the cabinet reshuffle of the fourth Abe Cabinet, he became Parliamentary State Secretary in the Cabinet Office.
