The fourth Abe cabinet ( Japanese 第 4 次 安 倍 第 1 次 改造 内閣 , daiyoji Abe daiichiji kaizō naikaku ), which was reorganized for the first time, ruled Japan under the leadership of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe from October 2, 2018 until another reorganization on September 11, 2019 Abe had previously been able to prevail clearly against his challenger Shigeru Ishiba in the election of the LDP chairman . The coalition cabinet of the Liberal Democratic Party and Kōmeitō consisted exclusively of members from the national parliament: 17 from the House of Representatives , three from the Senate . There was a woman in the cabinet. Including Abe, six ministers from the previous cabinet kept their portfolios, including Deputy Prime Minister Asō, Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga and Foreign Minister Kōno. Twelve of the new cabinet members had never been ministers before, under Abe more than ever. There were also changes in the LDP board; Among other things, the previous executive council chairman Wataru Takeshita , who had voted for Ishiba in the election of the party chairman, was replaced by Katsunobu Kato .
Under this cabinet the change of emperor from Akihito to Naruhito and with it the beginning of the Reiwa period took place. It was the last cabinet of the Heisei period . Senate elections were held in July 2019 , in which the governing coalition was able to maintain its absolute majority with slight losses.

Resignations
- Ichirō Tsukada , Vice Minister in the Reconstruction Department, Cabinet Office and MLIT, resigned from all offices on April 5, 2019. In a campaign speech for the gubernatorial election in Fukuoka , he had claimed that he had ordered the construction of a bridge between the hometowns of Prime Minister Abe and Finance Minister Asō, Shimonoseki and Kitakyūshū , following indirect demands from the two ( 忖度 , sontaku ; see also Moritomo Gakuen ).
- Olympic Minister Sakurada announced his resignation on the evening of April 10, 2019. At an event held by the LDP lower house MP Hinako Takahashi from Iwate Prefecture, he claimed that Takahashi was more important than rebuilding after the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 . Sakurada had previously been criticized for a number of thoughtless statements.
