Masatoshi Ishida ( Japanese 石田 真 敏 , Ishida Masatoshi ; born April 11, 1952 in Kainan , Wakayama Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), a member of the Shūgiin , the lower house of the national parliament , for the constituency of Wakayama 2 and former Interior minister .

Life

Ishida was born on April 11, 1952, the son of a textile merchant in Kainan . He studied political science at Waseda University until 1976 and then became secretary of the LDP politician Bō Hideo . In 1983 he was elected to the Wakayama Prefectural Parliament and in 1995 he was elected Mayor of Kainan. In 2002 he successfully stood as a candidate for the LDP in the lower house by- election in the constituency of Wakayama 2 after the death of the MP Mitsuzō Kishimoto . He beat Kishimoto's son Takeshi , who ran with the support of the Democratic Party (DPJ) and the Liberal Party  , with about 10,000 votes. Kishimoto moved into the House of Commons with a sekihairitsu ("loss rate") of 81.9% via the Kinki proportional representation . In 2005, Ishida won so clearly with 54.1% of the vote that Kishimoto missed a recovery.

In the Asō cabinet , Ishida was made Vice Minister in the Ministry of Finance in March 2009 . In the general election in 2009 , he lost his constituency to the DPJ candidate Naoto Sakiguchi , but was able to keep his seat through the proportional representation bloc . After the election of the LDP chairman in September 2012 , in which Shinzō Abe u. a. was able to prevail against the non-attached Shigeru Ishiba  and the Kinmirai-Seiji-Kenkyūkai follower Nobuteru Ishihara  , Ishida resigned from this faction and has since been non-attached.

Prime Minister Abe appointed Ishida to the reshaped Abe fourth cabinet as Minister of the Interior and Minister of State for the My Number system in October 2018 . When the cabinet was reshuffled again in September 2019 , he was replaced by his predecessor Sanae Takaichi .
