The Cabinet Asō ruled Japan from choosing Tarō ASOS for prime minister by the Kokkai on 24 September 2008 and the formal appointment by the Tenno until the resignation on 16 September, 2009.

Asō had won the election as chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on September 22nd . Predecessor Yasuo Fukuda announced his resignation on September 1, 2008. After Asō's election, the new cabinet was presented at a press conference in the Kantei , the prime minister’s official residence. Asō read the nominations himself - traditionally a task of the chief cabinet secretary. It consisted of 16 MPs from the Shūgiin , the lower house, and two from the Sangiin , the upper house. Five ministers of state from the previous cabinet were retained in their posts. Five ministers belonged to a cabinet for the first time. At 34, Yūko Obuchi was the youngest member of a cabinet in post-war history.

After the defeat of the governing coalition in the Shūgiin election on August 30, 2009 , the Asō cabinet resigned on September 16, 2009 before Yukio Hatoyama's election as the new Prime Minister.
