The fourth Abe cabinet ( Japanese 第 4 次 安 倍 第 2 次 改造 内閣 , daiyoji Abe dainijikaizō naikaku ), which was reorganized for the second time , has been ruling Japan under the leadership of Prime Minister Shinzō Abe since September 11, 2019. In the Senate election in July 2019 , the ruling coalition had from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Kōmeitō can maintain their absolute majority with slight losses. The LDP lost its independent absolute majority, so that the coalition is now again purely numerically necessary for the safe legislative majority of the government.
The cabinet consists exclusively of members from the national parliament, 18 from the House of Representatives and two from the Senate . Two ministerial posts were filled with women; After the resignation of Justice Minister Kawai, a third woman joined the cabinet, Masako Mori. In addition to Abe, Deputy Prime Minister Asō and Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga kept their departments and thus fewer ministers than ever before under Abe. 13 of the new cabinet members had never been ministers before. There were also changes in the LDP board; Among other things, the previous Executive Council Chairman Katsunobu Katō , who moved to the government, was replaced by the previous Olympic Minister Shun'ichi Suzuki .
The cabinet is the first since the beginning of the Reiwa period in April 2019 and therefore also the first to be appointed by Emperor Naruhito .

Resignations
- Economy Minister Sugawara resigned on October 25, 2019 over a violation of the election campaign law. The previous week he had his secretary deliver “condolences” to the relatives of a deceased voter.
- Justice Minister Kawai also resigned on October 31, 2019 over campaigning law violations. His wife Anri Kawai , who was elected for the LDP in the Senate election in July 2019 in the constituency of Hiroshima Prefecture, had paid more than the legal limit to employees of her election campaign. Justice Minister Kawai himself was charged with his secretary presenting gifts to potential voters in October.
