Taku Etō ( Japanese 江 藤 拓 , Etō Taku ; born July 1, 1960 in Hyūga , Miyazaki Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the LDP , a member of the Shūgiin , the lower house of the national parliament, for the 2nd constituency of Miyazaki and acting Minister of Agriculture . He belongs to the Nippon Kaigi .

Career

Etō was born in the Kadogawa district of the city of Hyūga and is the son of the politician Takami Etō and studied at the Seijō University . He followed his father's mandate in parliament in 2003.

Since the second cabinet reshuffle under Prime Minister Shinzō Abe , which took effect on September 11, 2019, Etō has officiated as Minister of Agriculture of Japan. He is the fourth minister for this area under Abe.

During his time as Minister of Agriculture, Etō made the fight against classical swine fever his task. He also fears a long-term decline in demand for milk products . Therefore, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan , he urged the population to buy one more bottle of milk than usual. Etō also said the pandemic should not be used as an excuse for unnecessary restrictions on imports and exports .
