The Ashida cabinet when he took office on March 10, 1948

The Ashida cabinet ruled Japan from March 10, 1948, after Ashida Hitoshi had been elected Prime Minister on February 21, 1948 by the Shūgiin against the vote of the Sangiin . It included six members of the Democratic Party , eight of the Socialist Party of Japan (SPJ), including two supporters of the left wing, and two members of the Kokumin-kyōdō-tō ("People's Cooperation Party").

In June and July the Kokkai began investigations into the Shōwa-Denkō scandal. On July 6, Ashida was summoned to a hearing ( 証人 喚 問 , shōnin kammon ). When the allegations were confirmed, the cabinet resigned on October 5th. It remained in office until Yoshida Shigeru was elected Prime Minister on October 14 and took over the office one day later.
