Akira Amari ( Japanese 甘 利 明 , Amari Akira ; born August 27, 1949 in Atsugi , Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), member of the lower house of the national parliament and former minister for economy, trade and industry . In the LDP, Amari belongs to the Asō faction .

Life

Amari graduated from Keiō University in 1972 . After two and a half years as a Sony employee , he became a secretary in the office of his father, MP Tadashi Amari . Akira Amari has been a member of the lower house herself since 1983 and has been re-elected twelve times since then, most recently in 2017 in Kanagawa 13 constituency. He is a member of the Japanese-Chinese and Japanese-Korean parliamentary groups. In 1989 Amari was parliamentary state secretary at MITI . From July 30, 1998 to October 5, 1999 he was Minister of Labor in the Obuchi cabinet under Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi . Under Shinzō Abe and his successor Yasuo Fukuda , Amari was Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry from September 26 to August 1, 2008 . After Takehiko Endo resigned as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries , he took over his official duties on September 3, 2007 for one day. After a month without a ministerial office, Prime Minister Tarō Asō appointed him to September 24 as Minister of State for Deregulation ( 規 制 改革 , literally "regulatory reform") in his cabinet , to which he belonged until his resignation in September 2009.

After Shinzō Abes was elected party chairman in 2012, Amari appointed him as PARC chairman in the party leadership, and after the LDP victory in the lower house election in December 2012 as Minister for Economic and Fiscal Policy in his second cabinet . Like Prime Minister Abe and other cabinet and LDP party members, Amari is a member of the Nippon Kaigi , which is considered revisionist . On January 28, 2016, he resigned after allegations of corruption, but denies them.

Akira Amari is a descendant of General Amari Torayasu, who was in the service of Takeda Shingen during the Sengoku period .
