Yasukazu Hamada
Yasukazu Hamada ( Japanese 浜 田 靖 一 , Hamada Yasukazu ; born October 21, 1955 in Futtsu , Chiba Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), member of the Shūgiin , the lower house, and former defense minister of his country. He does not belong to any faction within the LDP .
Life
Hamada is the son of Shūgiin MP Kōichi Hamada . After studying at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale , Michigan , and Senshū University in Chiyoda , Tokyo , Hamada worked in the office of Treasury Secretary Michio Watanabe from 1980 , and from 1982 as Secretary to Treasury Secretary Takeshita Noboru . Two years later he finally became his father's first secretary.
In the 1993 Shūgiin election , Yasukazu Hamada himself was first elected to the Shūgiin. In 1998 he was Parliamentary State Secretary ( seimujikan ) in the Defense Authority, the forerunner of the Ministry of Defense, and in 2003 under Shigeru Ishiba State Secretary ( fuku-chōkan ). In the LDP, Hamada was deputy chairman of the Political Research Committee ( PARC ) in 2001 , and in 2004 deputy chairman of the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
In September 2008, Prime Minister Tarō Asō appointed him to his cabinet as Minister of Defense .
