Takayama Tatsuo ( Japanese 高山 辰 雄 ; born June 26, 1912 in Ōita ; died September 14, 2007 ) was a Japanese painter of the Nihonga direction during the Shōwa period .

life and work

Takayama Tatsuo was born in Ōita. From 1931 he attended the Tokyo Art School (東京 美術 学校, Tōkyō bijutsu gakkō), the forerunner of the Geidai , where he studied under Matsuoka Eikyū (1881-1931). During his studies he was awarded for a picture on the 15th page . His name has now been mentioned along with other promising young artists such as Yamamoto Kyūjin , Sugiyama Yasushi and Hashimoto Meiji . After completing his training, Takayama rarely took part in the Shin Bunten exhibition , but devoted his time to work in the sense of the "Rusō Gasha" (瑠 爽 画 社), an association established in 1935 by Yamamoto, Sugiyama, Urata Masuo and others was founded. Takayama's representative works include “Vault of Heaven” (穹, Kyū; 1964) in the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo and “Interior” (室内, Shitsunai; 1952) owned by the artist. In 1981 he designed a series of ten black and white lithographs under the title "Unlimited Ōita - ten views" (限 り な き 大分 そ の 十景. Kagirinaki Ōita, sono jikkei).

Since 1983, on the occasion of Takayama's award with the Order of Culture the year before, the annual “Art Exhibition by Young People of the Ōita Prefecture in Memory of Takayama Tatsuo” (高山 辰 雄 賞 ジ ュ ニ ア 県 美展, Takayama Tatsuo Shō Junia Kembiten) has been held.
