Takemikazuchi ( Jap. タケミカヅチ ; or 建御雷之男神(タケミカヅチノヲ) , Takemikazuchi-no-where (-no-kami) or タケミカヅチノオ , Takemikazuchi-no-o (-no-kami) ; Karl Florence translated 'Brave-mighty-Venerable Man' and 'Brave Blade-Shining Old -Venerable God') alias Take-futsu -no-kami ( 建 布 都 神 (タ ケ フ ツ) , in Florence 'brave-hissing') or Toyo-futsu -no-kami ( 豊 布 都 神 (ト ヨ フ ツ) , in Florence 'Abundant-hissing') is a kami in Shinto mythology .

According to the Kojiki , he was born of the blood of the Kagutsuchi , which fell from the Izanagi's sword on the surrounding rocks after the Izanagi had killed him. Thus, he is the son of the Kami of Izanagi's sword ( Ame-no- or Itsu-no-wo-ha-bari-no-kami , in Florence 'The mighty male sword-cutting width' or 'the mighty one widened at the front edge '). Other shrines in which he is worshiped together with Futsunushi are the Kashima shrine in Shirakawa , the 47 Koshiō shrines in the northwest of Honshū , the Ariga shrine in Mito and the Ozaki shrine (a massha of the three mountains of Dewa ) . In the countless Toyo futsu shrines, it is also claimed that the main kami worshiped there is identical to Takemikazuchi.

Kuniyuzuri

So Ōkuninushi abdicated, handed over power to the Heavenly Kami and disappeared into the underworld. In the Kojiki he asked for compensation in the form of a palace / shrine (which was also built for him immediately; he is mostly identified with the Izumo no Ōyashiro ), in the Nihonshoki he handed over the spear ( hiro-hoko ) with which he was instead had subdued the country.

In an alternative Nihonshoki version, there is another passage in which Futsunushi and Takemikazuchi initially kill the malignant ( ashiki ) kami as well as the various types of herbs, trees and stones. Only the star-kami ( Hoshi-no-kami ; in Florence, "The shiny bright man") resisted submission. Therefore, Takemikazuchi and Futsunushi send after the Weber-Kami ( Shidori-no-kami ; Florence also literally translates as “the god of the streaky fabric”) Takehazuchi (in Florence “the impetuous fast time-honored”, literally translates as “brave-leaf- Mallet ”), which finally got the star kami to submit.

Takemikazuchi and his companion then went back to heaven and made a report, whereupon Ame-no-oshi-ho-mimi was asked to rule the country. However, this referred to his son, Ninigi .

Sending the cross sword down from heaven

When the later Jimmu - tennō had been poisoned by adverse forces during his campaign of conquest near Kumano and thereby passed out with his army, Takakuraji came from Kumano, woke Jimmu and told him about a dream in which Amaterasu and Takamimusubi approached Takemikazuchi and ordered him to descend as a former subjugator of the land and help Jimmu there. Takemikazuchi refused to descend himself, but agreed to send his cross sword ( Saji-futsu no Kami , Mika-futsu no Kami or Futsu no Mitama ) down to Takakuraji, with which Jimmu could smash all adverse deities and awaken his army (which also happened).

This sword is in all probability the same with which Susanoo once killed the giant snake Yamatanoorochi and which is currently said to be stored in Isonokami-jingū . The scriptures are silent about how this sword should have come into the possession of Takemikazuchi.
