Takeshi Kaneshiro ( Chinese  金城武 , Pinyin Jīnchéng Wǔ , Jyutping Gam 1 Sing 4 Mou 5 , Japanese 金城 ･ 武 Kaneshiro ･ Takeshi ; born October 11, 1973 in Taipei , Taiwan ) is a Taiwanese-Japanese actor .

Life

Takeshi Kaneshiro speaks five languages ​​( Standard Chinese , Japanese , Taiwanese , Cantonese , English ) fluently and is also known under the name Gumsing Mo (Cantonese). In addition to "hard" characters such as the prototypical emotional killer, he also plays gentle and soft characters.

Takeshi Kaneshiro was already in front of the camera for commercials at the age of 15, and was later discovered by a music company that promoted his singing career. He landed a few hits and became a popular pop idol. This secured him increased attention, auditions for television productions followed, where he was subsequently cast with teenage roles. In 1994 he achieved a respectable success with the role of the melancholy police officer in Wong Kar-Wai's Chungking Express . A year later, in another collaboration with Hong Kong director Fallen Angels , Kaneshiro mimes a mute loner. This also means his breakthrough as a young actor in Hong Kong.

In the first, third and fourth parts of the video game series Onimusha , he gave the protagonist Akechi Samanosuke both appearance and voice. His movements were also transferred to the game using a motion capture process.

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
